Airline partnerships have become more complex as airlines look for the best results and not what`s in their alliance or portfolio. Equity has multiplied and long-standing agreements have multiplied. United`s main Asian partner (ANA) has invested in an airline (PAL) with which Uniteds national rival (American) will work. American and PAL`s codeshare plans for Japan and the Philippines indicate that, despite the overlap in competition, ANA cannot oppose it or has chosen not to – ANA could fly over the Pacific instead. The codeshare agreement will come into effect on October 28, 2018. This will allow Bangkok Airways passengers to travel on the Philippine Airlines flight between Bangkok (BKK) and Manila (MNL), while PAL passengers flying from Manila will be able to travel smoothly on Bangkok Airways flights to Chiang Mai (CNX) via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
